Occupational Therapy is "skilled treatment" that helps individuals to achieve independence on all facts of their lives. Occupational therapy assists people in developing the "skills for the job of living" necessary for independent & satisfying lives.

Sensory processing disorder is a neurological disorder that results from the brains inability to integrate process & respond to certain information received from the body’s five basic sensory systems.

Sensory experience includes touch, movement, body awareness, sight, sound, smell, taste & pull of gravity. Distinguishing between these is the process of sensory integration.

Sensory integration focuses primarily on three basic sensory tactile, vestibular & proprioceptive.

Following are some signs of sensory integration disorder / sensory processing order.

  • Over sensitivity to touch, movement, sights or sounds
  • Under reactivity to touch, movement, sight or sounds.
  • Specific learning difficulties / delayed in academic achievements
  • Difficulty in making transition from one situation to another
  • Tendency to be easily distracted,/limited attention control
  • Activity level that is unusually high or unusually low
  • Social and / or emotional problems
  • Difficulty learning new movements
  • Delay in speech, language or motor skills
  • Impulsive, lacking in self – control
  • Physical clumsiness or apparent carelessness
  • Poor self concept / body awareness
  • Inability to unwind or calm self
