Need for Infrastructure development

In the year 2008 Netra Tendulkar-Patkar started on humble mission with a dream to have her own Rehabilitation Centre with the help of friends & relatives to provide education and treatment facilities under one roof. She started with just 8 children. Today Zep provides the rehabilitation education & training to 101 children at the centre.

Zep Rehab centre started its setup at rented premises and has been moving to different location. Now we are allotted land along with minimal infrastructure for our rehabilitation centre by PCMC Municipal Corporation on lease for 30 years.

The allotted infrastructure at Ajmera colony, Pimpri, Pune though the area is sufficient for further development at present rooms are empty and need many facilities for our special children. We need some extra infrastructure and facilities so that we can provide proper education & training to special children. We would like to set up proper education center to help special students to live independently and with dignity in this society.

Your generous contribution towards our infrastructure development requirement is appreciated.

Long Term Rehabilitation:

The greatest problem is with children above 18 years. If such children sit idle at home then it may create a behavioral problem which gives mental tension to the family. Sometimes parents are in despair & feel special child as an unwanted responsibility. To avoid such things it is important to recognize the ability & liking of the child, when they become 13 -14 years of age & teach them work as per their capacity or caliber. At that time it is possible to make them independent by taking into consideration the profession of their parents.

Special children are permanent responsibility that is why parents are always worried about who will look after their children after their death. In such cases, if we teach them as early as possible, how to do their daily works themselves; how to converse with other for their primary needs; how to obey orders and help others, then only they will be independent and not be a burden to others. For that purpose, ZEP guides the parents from time to time. It is necessary to rehabilitate the children while making them independent. We make an attempt to rehabilitate the children after taking into account their ability, capacity, age & profession of parents.

The program aims at creating an infrastructure, which ensures a smooth graduation from school to the outside world for the young adult and the family. It also aims to ensure training and placements of the young adults in various vocations and organizations. This can either be done independently in the residential center or by associating with various sheltered workshops and training institutions. The vocational training program aims at the following:-

Paper bags, cloth bags, File & Folders, Paper & cloth Envelopes, Decorative flowers, Cooking & Baking, Diya paintings, Rakhi making, Cane baskets, Candle & agarbatti making, Fertilizers, Gardening, Different masala & chutney, Collage making.

In this center we emphasis on training them in any vocational skill according to the ability of our students for developing them into self- sufficient and self-reliant young adults. These trained skills can be carried out from home under the supervision of any family member or attendant.

Zep cafe and zep daily market activity

Zep Cafe initiative is introduced from last year as part of Vocational project to rehab our students in true sense and make them future ready. This is monthly activity; during this activity we are enriching our students with the experience of working at Cafe. This also helps them to enhance their money handling skills
